The office

A family office that builds what it owns.

Jacobsen Ventures invests the Jacobsen family's capital in companies it can help build, and holds them for the long run.

Jacobsen Ventures is the investment office of the Jacobsen family, based in Logan, Utah. It began in 2013 as a venture building practice, taking technology and operating roles inside early-stage Utah companies, and became the family's office as those positions grew.

Today the office holds interests in private equity, healthcare services, water infrastructure and freight technology, and its family includes FDEV, an AI engineering firm. It invests from the family's own balance sheet, with no outside investors and no fund term, so it can hold a good company for as long as it stays good.

Philosophy

Six principles guide every commitment the office makes.

01

Operate before we invest

The office has filled COO, CTO and board seats at companies it owns. It invests where that operating experience can change the result.

02

Hold for decades

Family capital has no fund clock. The office plans to own good companies for a generation and adds to them as they grow.

03

Own few, know each well

A concentrated portfolio lets the office move quickly when a company needs capital, a hire or a hard decision.

04

Build with AI from the start

BUILD and Pure run on software and AI systems built by FDEV, the family's engineering firm, so they do more with smaller teams.

05

Back founders as partners

The office co-founds and co-invests alongside the people who run the business, and it stays close after the check clears.

06

Steward for the next generation

Every holding is chosen with the next generation in mind, and the family's younger members already invest alongside the office.

Ownership

What portfolio companies get from the office.

Operating depth

Experience from the COO, CTO and board seats of companies the office built, available on the problems that matter most.

Engineering

FDEV builds the systems a growing company needs, so management teams get software and AI without hiring a department.

Patient capital

Follow-on capital from an owner with no exit deadline, sized to the plan rather than a fund's calendar.

Relationships

Access to BUILD Capital Partners, its investors and the office's partners in Chile and Europe.

Stewardship

Built to last beyond one generation.

The Jacobsens organized the office to outlast any single person. Its holdings, records and systems are built so the next generation can carry the work forward.
